I am a self-taught photographer and an engineer working in the field of applied physics. Since it first opened at the Griffin Museum of Photography in 2005, my “Experiment in Perspective” series of fine-art photographs have been traveling the country, including solo exhibits at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory , Batavia IL, Michael Mazzeo Gallery, NYC and Blue Sky Gallery, Portland OR.
My photos are held in numerous public and private collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Museum of Art, Portland OR; and Fidelity Investments Collection. I spent eighteen years running a particle accelerator at Harvard University’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and have collaborated with museums, using accelerator technology in the analysis of art. I currently works for Harvard’s Rowland Institute for Science, originally founded by Polaroid’s Edwin H. Land. I reside in Somerville, MA, with my wife, Kirsten and my 3-year-old Australian Shepherd, Little Walter.

Dear John,
Thank you for your blog and web page – both informative and beautifully designed! I work at at Deakin Uni, Australia and am chairing a new subject ‘New Worlds:Intersections of Art and Science’. May I use your imagery as examples for these classes? Of course I will refer students back to your online publications.
Can you recommend other artist/scientists please? I am always after inspired examples, not just in photography, but also other media.
Best regards,
James
